Stop, step back and plan your goals

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

2022 is here but for many of us it's still very much 2019! Time flies it seems, especially during a pandemic.

But this time of year is the perfect time to re-evaluate everything you do. Why? Because despite at the risk of sounding cheesy, it's a fresh start, it's good for wellbeing and keeps us heading in the right direction without losing track of time.

Many of us will go back to work this week after an extended time off so it's great to go back in with your head in the right place. I think it's often overlooked and it shouldn't be.

So what do I do?

I write down 5 different goals I'd like to achieve each year and maybe you should try this too.

Remember these are no shame, no pressure goals. They are personal, private and their objective is so that in 2023 you can look back and think 'actually 2022 was OK after all, look at what I accomplished'.

Typical goals I go for are a balance between vague and focused so you have a direction to go without knowing the ins and outs of the journey. An example being 'Upskill my Digital Marketing skills'.

It's also great during difficult times to look back on previous successes as strength going forward. I quit smoking in 2016 and it's one I'm always proud to be reminded about. And if in the worst case scenario you didn't achieve them, that's OK as long as we learn why and build upon it. I still haven't achieved my fitness goals of 2019!

Have a go and let me know how you get on.
